As Canada shuffles through its decades-long, scandal-plagued quest for new fighter jets, the Trudeau-Carney government appears poised to make a catastrophic blunder that would cripple our air force and incinerate our most critical alliance.

The choice is no longer between the proven, dominant F-35 and other competitors. Shockingly, the government is flirting with the Swedish Gripen—a jet that represents a geopolitical fantasy, a technological dead end, and a deal that would leave Canada defenseless and humiliated.

The Gripen Delusion: A Geopolitical Suicide Note

Let’s be brutally honest about the elephant in the room that every Gripen-pusher conveniently ignores. The Gripen is not a sovereign Swedish product. Its heart—its engines, critical avionics, and key weapons systems—are American technology, protected by stringent U.S. export controls.

So, let’s play out the scenario. Canada, for the second time, publicly humiliates the United States by backing out of the F-35 consortium we helped found. This isn’t a theoretical exercise; it’s a real-world demonstration of devastating effectiveness.

They control the entire supply chain, from the microchip to the missile, including 99% of the world’s rare earth elements—the very materials needed to build these advanced weapons systems.
