Feel that? It’s not just the unseasonal heat. It’s the heat of a monumental betrayal. A new report has confirmed what many of us have feared: climate change is poised to hammer Canada’s economy, gutting our GDP on a scale we previously dared not imagine.

The Times Chronicle reveals that the economic damage from wildfires, floods, and droughts will be far worse than projected. Our financial future is literally burning, melting, and flooding away.

And what is the Canadian government’s response to this existential threat? A performative, self-serving, and utterly ridiculous policy that protects corporate interests while throwing everyday Canadians and the planet under the bus: the 100% tariff on Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs).

Let’s call this what it is: a scandal of epic proportions. A farce that should leave every citizen who cares about their wallet, their children’s future, or simple common sense feeling resentful, upset, and utterly indignant.

The “Emperor’s New EV”: The Pathetic State of Our “Options”

The government would have you believe this tariff is about “protecting national security” or “standing up for Canadian values.” What a load of sanctimonious garbage. It’s about protecting a legacy auto industry that has left us high and dry.

While politicians pat themselves on the back for their “strong climate leadership,” let’s look at the “brilliant” EV market they’re protecting us for:

• We don’t have a single mass-market, affordable EV made here. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

• The EVs available to Canadians are outdated, limited in selection, and cost a small fortune. Try finding a new, family-sized EV for under $50,000. It’s a fantasy.

• We are being forced to choose between bankruptcy and combustion while the world moves on.

This isn’t a market; it’s a protected cartel. We are being sold the automotive equivalent of the Emperor’s New Clothes, told to applaud a “green transition” that doesn’t actually exist for the average family. It’s an insult to our intelligence.

Sovereignty Sold for Political Points

The most galling part of this scandal? We have surrendered our sovereignty. We are not making an independent choice for our environment and our people. We are blindly following a geopolitical script written in Washington D.C., sacrificing our own climate goals and economic well-being to be a “good ally.”

How does it feel, Canada? To know that our climate policy is not being set in Ottawa for the benefit of Canadians, but is a puppet show with strings pulled from abroad? This isn’t sovereignty; it’s subservience. We are setting ourselves on fire to keep someone else warm.

The consequences of this hypocrisy are devastating:

• For Our Planet: Every day we block affordable EVs is a day we lock in more carbon emissions. This tariff is a direct attack on our ability to meet our own climate targets.

• For Our People: Middle and lower-class families are priced out of the green transition. The wealthy can afford a $70,000 Tesla; the rest of us are stuck with gas-guzzlers, paying punishing prices at the pump while being shamed for it.

• For Our Economy: The report is clear: climate change = economic doom. By blocking the most effective tool for transportation decarbonization, we are actively choosing a path that will “hurt Canada’s GDP.” It’s economic suicide, dressed up as policy.

We Must Revolt Against This Insanity

This isn’t just a bad policy; it’s a betrayal of our future. It’s a declaration that political posturing and protectionism are more important than a livable planet and an affordable cost of living.

But we don’t have to take it.

There is a direct way to tell the government that we see through their charade, that we demand real climate action, and that we want affordable, 21st-century technology NOW.
