Proof Canada is a zoo for protected animals ?

In the wake of announcing one of the biggest deals in corporate history, the chief executive of Verizon Communications said Monday that his company is no longer interested in entering the Canadian market.

Speculation that the government had slanted rules to spur Verizon to compete against incumbent telecom companies BCE, Rogers Communications and Telus sparked an enormous public relations and lobbying effort from the industry. In the end, Verizon’s massive US$130-billion deal to buy the 45% stake of its wireless unit it does not already own from Britain’s Vodaphone appears to have killed its nascent plans. In an interview with Bloomberg News, Verizon chief executive Lowell McAdam said the company had only “limited interest” in Canada and that the massive deal meant that interest is now effectively zero.
