US to undocumented immigrants: Leave now or pay up to $700 per day
US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem explained the new feature on the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Home app, which now allows undocumented immigrants to voluntarily leave the country. The tool is part of the Trump administrationâs broader immigration enforcement strategy.
“The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream,” Noem wrote on Truth Social on Monday. She warned those who do not comply: “If they donât, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return.”
How the app works
According to Noem, hundreds have already used the app to leave the country voluntarily. She said individuals with final removal orders could face fines of up to $700 per day if they remain in the US.
The appâs self-deportation feature provides an alternative to formal deportation, which can have long-term legal consequences for re-entry. Those who use it avoid the formal removal process, which can involve detention and a lengthy appeal system.
Total no. of Indian students in US (2014-2024)
Rajani Srinivasan, an Indian student, was one of the first to access the self-deportation option. Her visa was revoked after being accused of âadvocating for violence and terrorism.â
Srinivasan, who had been pursuing a doctorate in urban planning at Columbia University, left the US after Homeland Security cited her involvement in activities supporting Hamas.
Trump administrationâs âStay Out and Leave Nowâ campaign
The appâs feature is part of a $200 million âStay Out and Leave Nowâ campaign, which urges undocumented immigrants to leave voluntarily. Noem appeared in an advertisement for the campaign, saying: âPresident Trump has a clear message: if you are here illegally, we will find you and deport you. You will never return. But if you leave now, you may have an opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American dream.â
Why introduce the feature?
The Trump administration has been using military planes and chartered flights to deport undocumented individuals, including three flights to India in the past seven weeks. The app offers an alternative that reduces the need for ICE enforcement and detention, which can be costly for US taxpayers.

I regret moving to Canada
By TellDelhi
Every day, I see people in India dreaming of moving abroad, believing there are better opportunities. But let me give you a reality check. I live in Canada and is not what it seems. The government and colleges have turned international students into a business, and once you land here, you realize youâve been scammed.
The College Scam
Most students come through private or low-ranking colleges that charge insane tuition fees but teach almost nothing. Professors barely put in effort, the curriculum is outdated, and the degree is nearly useless in the job market. After graduation, youâll realize that employers donât even take your diploma seriously. I go to bow valley college and itâs the worst school in Calgary Without âCanadian experience,â youâll be forced into survival jobs like Uber, warehouse labor, or retail just to pay rent. Meanwhile, youâre drowning in tuition debt with no real career growth.
Financial Struggles and Exploitation
The cost of living in Canada is insane. Rent is sky-high, groceries are overpriced, and basic necessities cost a fortune. Most students end up working long hours at minimum-wage jobs just to survive. Work-life balance doesnât existâyou either work or you donât eat. Employers exploit international students, paying them under the table for illegal wages, and if you complain, theyâll just replace you with the next desperate student.
Mental Health and Loneliness
Living away from family is much harder than you think. In India, you have a strong support systemâfriends, family, festivals, and community. In Canada, youâll be isolated, constantly working, and struggling to connect with people. It can be hard to connect with people from our community as well as we are constantly busy with these âbusyâ lifestyle. Canadians are polite but distant, and real friendships are rare. Depression and loneliness hit hard, and many students suffer in silence, unable to share their struggles.
Why Stay in India?
India is growing, and opportunities are improving. If you work smart, you can build a great life without sacrificing your mental health, family, and dignity. The West sells you an illusion, but once you get here, you realize youâve been brainwashed. Donât fall for the trapâstay in India, invest in yourself, and build something meaningful at home.
SO, leave now and come back when the dust settled… you may have an opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American or Canadian dream.
